Be The Difference, Inc. was established in 2019 by a group of 3 Vero Beach High School alumnae seeking to promote economic and educational opportunities for students in need. The organization was built on the foundational value of being the difference today for the youth of tomorrow. BTD’s founders’ focus on the youth stems from the impact leaders in their community had on them while they were still young. Be the Difference, Inc. will establish programs to provide the necessary resources to build strong future leaders by feeding their present minds. With the support of the community, the continued growth of the organization will allow for the torch to pass on.

Kyra Isler

Kyra grew up in Indian River County and has always had a love for educating and helping youth of all ages. Throughout high school she was involved in many volunteer tutoring and mentoring programs throughout the county. In 2016 the School District of Indian River County recognized and awarded Kyra the “Youth Volunteer of the Year” award. Kyra graduated from Florida Gulf University in 2018 where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Education, Child and Youth Studies. Kyra returned to Indian River County and is currently a teacher for our School District.

Alexus McGriff

Alexus grew up in Indian River County and attended Vero Beach High School. During her attendance she deepened her love for learning and dedication to success and leadership through her participation in basketball and other sports. At the Boys and Girls club of Vero Beach, Alexus put leadership and community outreach to practice through teaching intro to Python programming to student members during the 2016 summer program. Alexus went to college at Washington & Lee University where in 2018 she received a Bachelors degree in Computer Science while also studying Sociology. This further deepened her passion for addressing inequity in communities while also convincing her that there could be a path to reconciliation through giving back. Now living in Dallas, TX and working as a digital technology analyst and real estate agent, Alexus still strives to give back to the Indian River County community.

Jasmine Brown

Jasmine grew up in Indian River County where she participated in Varsity basketball from her freshman to senior year. This extracurricular allowed her to deepen her leadership skills to the point where she could connect and lead people from various backgrounds in an effective way. This experience instilled in her a passion to lead towards progress in all areas of her community. Jasmine graduated from Florida Gulf University in 2018 where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Forensics and Criminal Justice and a minor in Sociology. Prior to graduating, Jasmine worked for the Boys and Girls Club of America where she helped with the educational and personal development of youth of all ages. Having developed her leadership skills in Vero Beach and seeing its benefits throughout her college and professional experience, Jasmine is excited to give those skills back to the Vero Beach community.
